MARRIAGE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS


PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE


In order to apply for a marriage license, you will need the following:

1.    Both parties must apply together and in person.

2.    Both parties will need legal identification, preferably a driver's license, or State of Florida I.D. card, which may be obtained at the Driver's office; a passport, or other legal identification which is issued by the State or government and which ahs a photo of the applicant.

3.     The fee for a marriage license, payable in cash upon application is $88.50, unless both parties are residents of the state of Florida and both parties have completed premarital counseling; in which case the fee is $56.00. There is an additional fee of $20.00 if the marriage ceremony is to be performed in the courthouse by a marraige license clerk.

4.    The effective date of the marriage license is the date of issuance with the exception of a 3-day deferral in the case where either or both parties are residents of the state of Florida and those resident parties have not completed the pre-marital course.

5.    Blood tests are no longer required in the State of Florida.

6.    The marriage license is valid for 60 days from the effective date.

7.    If either party has been married before, the party must be able to provide the clerk with:

        A.     Marriage ended in Divorce: a certified copy of the Final Judgement of Divorce.

        B.    Marriage ended by Annulment (by the court or by the church): a copy of the annulment.

        C.    Marriage ended by Death: the exact date of death of spouse.
