The 10 Commandments Commandment Three A wedding is not a time "to have it your way." The precepts that guide a fast-food-restaurant chain should not be applied to your wedding. Etiquette, over the years, has been modified to adapt to our fast-paced lifestyle, but its tried-and-true rules and standards (that guarantee success) should never be ignored. As I tell my clients: If you want to break the rules, know what the rules are. Then make an educated decision. The word etiquette is French, literal translation: ticket. And maybe it is. A ticket to a more gracious lifestyle, to more perfect speech and better manners, and of perfecting our own style within the realm of good taste. It's also interesting to note that the synonym of the word etiquette is the word decorum. Decorum relates to the way we act, the way we behave--of living our life with courtesy toward others and with a sense of propriety; it is a lifestyle. <To Commandment 1 & 2 To Commandment 4 & 5 > This article contributed by |
